Biography
PETER KLASEN, 1935
Born in Lübeck, Germany, Peter Klasen began his studies in 1955 at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, where he specialized in lithography and airbrushing.
After four years of training under teachers such as Hans Richter, Karl Schmidt-Rotluff and Will Grohmann, Klasen left in 1959 for Paris where he became one of the founders of the “Nouvelle Figuration” movement.
This movement also includes artists like Jacques Monory, Valerio Adami and Hervé Télémaque. It involves narrative painting that is a reaction to abstract art, but is often compared to Pop Art.
