PATRICK LARA
Biography
PATRICK LARA, 1961-
Patrick Lara was born in 1961 in Arcachon, Gironde to a father from Guadeloupe and a mother from Bordeaux.
Originally specializing in photography, Lara moved on to collages of mixed media, which he started to show in the 2000s in different cities abroad such as Barcelona and Madrid in Spain (La Sala Gaspar, La Bienal Internacional), Kassel in Germany (Documenta X), and in Paris (Galerie Seine 51).
Following the visual vocabulary of collage in abstract art, Lara creates compositions with photos of women placed on the canvas, which are then modified using a variety of techniques.
The surface is scraped, burned or darkened by adding tar, or a ‘brou de noix’, which creates a palate of earthly tones. The work may then be considered as a puzzle in multiple images, or as an ensemble that combines them into one composition.
