CARLITO

Biography

CARLITO DODICI, 1992-

Carlito (from his real name, Charie Jacq) is a self-taught artist who was born in Nevers in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. From a very early age, he was surrounded by modern art in his family, particularly from the Lyrical Abstraction movement.

His main influences are Hans Hartung, Olivier Debré, and in particular Pierre Soulages who he met in person in the late painter’s house in Sète in 2016.

Carlito’s body of work is based on an esthetic experiment which explores the tensions between different materials such as plastic film, glass, resin, ink, pigments, and fluorescent and phosphorescent paint. He also experiments with different techniques like digital printing and retroluminescence.

While Carlito may soon define his genre, he finds endless inspiration in a quote from Soulages: “It is in what I create which tells me what I am looking for.”
