JEAN-CHRISTOPHE DE CLERCQ
Biography
JEAN-CHRISTOPHE DE CLERCQ, 1966-
Jean-Christophe De Clercq was born in Issy-les-Moulineaux, just outside Paris.
He lives and works in Clermont-Ferrand and chooses to express himself on Arches paper as a perfect medium for his freedom of expression.
From his hand-made brushes to the creative process, the artist is entirely influenced by his experience in Korea, where he was a pupil of the master of calligraphy, Ung No Lee.
Since 1988, De Clercq’s works have been exhibited in Clermont-Ferrand, Zurich, Paris and at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, among other places.
The images portray an internal emotion that becomes an immediacy for the artist, a psychological interpretation of processed data.
The forms then appear on paper, channeled through his body to the hand, resulting in a seismographic recording of the present before it disappears forever.
