JOAN PUNYET MIRÓ

Biography

JOAN PUNYET MIRÓ, 1968-

Joan Punyet Miró was born in Palma de Mallorca where, from the earliest age, he was surrounded by the works of his grandfather, the Catalan artist Joan Miró i Ferrà. One could consider this privilege as encouraging, or rather intimidating, depending on whether the grandson would ever consider expressing himself in the same media.

In preparation for the obligations that awaited him, Punyet Miró studied History of Art at New York University after which he worked at MoMA New York, the Picasso Museum in Paris and the Miró Foundation in Barcelona.

But it wasn’t until the Covid pandemic that Punyet Miró would become an artist in his own right. The result is a collection of reflective sculptures, traditional ceramics and powerful paintings which were the fruit of his frustration, his isolation and his personal emancipation.

The Galerie Sweeney is proud to present the first exhibition of this talented artist in Bordeaux, where Mediterranean tones mingle with the sights and sounds of the Southwest.
